Corneal blindness is a very serious global health problem. In China, the annual increase of corneal blindness patients is about one hundred thousand, of which 30% to 40% are in urgent need for corneal transplantation. The required materials for transplantation are donated by volunteers. Because of the influence of traditional thoughts and the scarcity of professional Eye Banks, donations are in drastic shortage. Meanwhile, many patients even waited for a lifetime to see the world again.

Since the establishment of the first Eye Bank in 2006, AIER Eye Bank has been following national policy and regulations, and actively cooperate with health administrative departments at all levels and the Red Cross for management and supervision.

AIER Eye bank is operated Under the supervision and coordination of the Red Cross societies, AIER Eye Bank also orderly conduct cornea reception work and actively coordinates with publicity and public education.

Thanks to the geographical advantage and powerful medical resources of AIER Eye Hospital Group which has more than 190 hospitals nationwide, AIER Eye Bank is trying to build a nationwide network of cornea donation to provide timely and effective transplant surgical information and assistance for more blindness patients.

At present, there are nine AIER Eye Banks in AIER Eye Hospital of Changsha, Shenyang, Chengdu, Wuhan, Nanning, Lanzhou, Chongqing, and Jinan,Guiyang， as well as 41 Red Cross Cornea donation receiving stations nationwide.

AIER Eye Bank actively collaborates the International Lions Club, the International Federation of Eye Bank and other domestic and foreign Philanthropic organizations to carry out volunteer training, blindness relief, academic exchanges, public education and other activities.
