The Belt & Road Initiative: Loving Overseas Chinese - Brightness Action

To better serve "The Belt and Road Initiative" and share healthcare development with other countries along the project, the Oversea Chinese Charity Foundation of China and AIER Eye Hospital Group jointly founded "The Belt and Road Initiative: Loving Overseas Chinese-Brightness Action" charitable project. On May 20, 2017, the opening ceremony was held in Yangon, Myanmar's largest city.

This project is jointly hosted by Oversea Chinese Charity Foundation of China, Yunnan Province Federation of Returned Oversea Chinese, AIER Eye Hospital Group and Jin Tao Yan Buddhist Charity Association of Myanmar. The cost of surgeries was donated by Mr. Yuhua Zhang, an overseas Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist who lives in Germany. The surgeries were carried out by medical experts from AIER's international medical aid team.

The international medical aid team was formed by eight medical doctors and nurses and was Led by Yongxiang Gong, director of Kunming AIER Eye Hospital. On May 19, more than 40 cataract patients received free operation on the same day immediately after AIER’s team arrived in Yangon. "As the largest professional eye hospital group in China, AIER takes on the mission of "Enabling Everyone, whether rich or poor, has the right to eye health", said Mr. Zhikun Peng, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of AIER Eye Hospital Group. Myanmar is our close ally and the first stop country of "The Belt and Road Initiative: Loving Overseas Chinese-Brightness Action" project. He also expressed that the aid team will fully use the professional advantages in Ophthalmology, by offering professional medical services to bring a bright life to Myanmar’s impoverished cataract patients. At the same time, AIER will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Burmese, improve Myanmar’s ophthalmic medical skills, and actively engage in medical personnel training and education.

"The Belt and Road Initiative: Loving Overseas Chinese-Brightness Action" project aims to provide sight restoration operation for free to impoverished cataract patients and help them to see the word again.

In 2017, this program will also be launched in the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries. In the near future, AIER’s public welfare footprint will spread to more countries along One Belt and One Road.
