Ministry of Science and Technology's key research and development project lands in AIER for the first time, focusing on myopia prevention and control

AIER Group has made significant progress in science and technology! The Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China (MOST) has notified us that AIER Hospital Group has been approved to take the lead in the National Key Research and Development Programme (NKRP), an inter-governmental science and technology innovation key project. The project targets the field of youth myopia prevention and control, and will make full use of clinical data resources, integrate cross-disciplinary disciplines and focus on research and development of new disruptive technologies to help prevent and control youth myopia in China. The establishment of this project means that the research strength and technological innovation capability of AIER in the field of myopia prevention and control has been highly recognised and supported at the national level.

"The National Key R&D Programme is a category of major science and technology projects established by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Intergovernmental Key R&D Programme for Science, Technology and Innovation is a major key project of international science and technology cooperation used to support the research of frontier foundation and key common issues between the governments.

The AIER Institute of Optometry at Headquarters Building in Changsha AIER

The approved project is undertaken by Professor YANG research team at the AIER Institute of Optometry, with Research Fellow Dr.Lan , Deputy Director, in charge of implementation. An interdisciplinary innovation team has been formed and a series of basic experiments have been completed. After more than half a year of review, defence and external consultation, the project has been formally entered into the project cycle from January 2023 to December 2024. It is reported that this is another important breakthrough achieved by AIER Eye Hospital Group after being approved to undertake research projects at various levels, including local, provincial and National Natural Science Foundation of China.
