More than 1 billion people can be avoided vision impairment, there's also a lack of ophthalmic medical resources

According to the World Vision Report, at least 2.2 billion people worldwide are visually impaired or blind, among them at least 1 billion of these problems could have been prevented. Based on the Major Report on Global Eye Health, global inequality in vision impairment is high. Children, older people, women, rural people and ethnic minorities are more likely to have impaired vision, and 90% of visually impaired people live in low - and middle-income countries.

China is one of the countries with the largest number of blind and visually impaired patients in the world. Age-related eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma and fundus disease are on the rise. More than 600 million people suffer from shortsightedness, ranking first in the world. According to the White Paper on China's Eye Health, although the Cataract Surgery Rate (referred to as CSR) per million population in China has increased from 300 in 1999 to nearly 3000 now, it is still low in the world.

At the same time, there were still clear shortages of eye doctors, there are 44,800 eye doctors in the country, on average about 50,000 people have 1.6 eye doctors, and mostly concentrated in urban hospitals in a prefecture-level city or above, due to the severe lack of medical resources in rural and remote areas, those only with access to primary healthcare cannot get effective treatment and may have severe vision loss and even blindness. Ophthalmic medical resources are still scarce in some areas of China.

20 billion yuan will focus on philanthropy, ophthalmic talent training, and academic research development

Statistics show that in the past 20 years, AIER has supported more than 600 charity projects, covering more than 300 regions in 31 provinces and autonomous regions, donated 2 billion yuan in total, provided more than 200 million public welfare services, and performed 1 million public welfare operations.
