On July 30, at EyeChina Global Eye Forum 2022 and AIER's 20th-anniversary celebration, AIER launched the "Beidou talent plan"

 

 

On July 30, at EyeChina Global Eye Forum 2022 and AIER Eye Hospital Group (referred to as AIER) 's 20th-anniversary celebration, AIER launched the " Beidou talent plan ". In the next 10 years, AIER will introduce and support 10 world-class strategic scientists, 100 industry leaders and leading talents, 1,000 ophthalmology trusted cadre, and 10,000 ophthalmology professionals, as well as create more than 100,000 employment positions worldwide. This is designed to cultivate a group of compound ophthalmic high-end talents with an ideal, ambitious, sense of responsibility, with equal emphasis on clinical technology and scientific research strength for the industry.

 

 

The “Beidou talent plan” has newly defined seven types of talent star chains, and it also provides five platforms to integrate resources and two support systems. In the future, AIER will strive to build a global ophthalmology talent ecosystem by introducing and cultivating these seven types of talents and guiding the development of eye health causes worldwide.

 

 

Seven types of talent star chain, an interdisciplinary, multi-level talent development blueprint

 

 

With the development of digitalization, intelligent iteration, AI, big data, stem cells, gene editing and other cutting-edge technologies, the global ophthalmology industry has stepped into an era of innovation and development. Over the past 20 years, to fully implement the concept of “realizing win-win results with shared efforts and benefits ”, AIER has established a talent development platform by sharing the global wisdom of ophthalmology with the comprehensive coordination of medical, teaching, research platform, production and investment.

In the future, we will introduce and cultivate talents of these seven industries in an all-round and multi-level manner ” According to Lihua Wang, Vice President and Director of the Human Resources department of AIER, the seven major categories of talents include interdisciplinary subjects such as vision science, ophthalmology, artificial intelligence and intelligent manufacturing, as well as public health and management.

The seven categories of talents respectively cover -

 

Tower strategic talents: must have advanced strategic vision and interdisciplinary ability, have original contributions and world-recognized achievements in ophthalmology, optometry, vision science and related interdisciplinary fields, and be able to solve the eye health development problems in line with the national strategic needs and human well-being. Such as strategic scientists.


 

Talents with helmsmanship: Master the development trend and cutting-edge technology in the field of ophthalmology, optometry and vision science, and be able to establish and lead a medical, teaching and research team to solve key technical problems in a certain professional direction or realize industrial transformation. Such as field scientists, clinical medical scientists, etc.

 


Comprehensive management talent: Experience in hospital management is a must.



Composite leading talents: should have significant achievements and contributions in ophthalmology, optometry and vision science, and be able to conduct research according to important clinical needs and apply relevant results to guide and improve clinical practice. Such as academic leaders and so on.



 

Young and middle-aged top talents: must have rich clinical experience and innovation ability, and can undertake the diagnosis and treatment of intractable diseases in the field of ophthalmology and optometry. Such as the trusted cadre of the hospital.

 


 

Innovative high-potential talents: can devote themselves to research, dare to explore, continue to carry out innovative research and interdisciplinary research, and promote the progress of clinical practice. Such as outstanding postdoc.

 


Prospective talents: Outstanding graduates, young doctors and innovative talents with professional backgrounds in ophthalmology, optometry, clinical medicine, medical imaging, anaesthesia, rehabilitation medicine, etc., who are willing to engage in ophthalmology and optometry-related clinical work.

 

 

“It covers all directions, stages, and types of people in the field of ophthalmology. However, for different groups of people, we also have the corresponding introduction and training plan.” “Eighty per cent of our talents are trained by ourselves,” said Lihua Wang. “Every young person who comes to AIER has a clear understanding of their growth path, career plan, and growth tasks that need to be completed at each time node.”


 

In recent years, AIER has successively launched a series of ophthalmic elite talent training programs, such as the “Photon program”, “Doctoral talent program”, “Quality talent program” and “Postdoctoral training program”, hoping to gradually improve the current situation of ophthalmic talent shortage and truly help the development of the ophthalmic industry.

Lihua Wang stressed, "In the next ten years, in addition to gradually introducing and training several industries leading talents, we will also rely on the construction of five platforms to build an international talent gathering platform."

 

The five platforms include a global ophthalmic chain medical service platform; Clinical, teaching and research integration innovation platform; Industrial incubation and transformation platform; Education and training platform as well as a  sustainable platform for charity and social services.

 


“By building a closed-loop capability from clinical to scientific research and then to transformation, we want to promote the research and development of new ophthalmic technologies and intelligent manufacturing, while supporting the continuous iteration and independent innovation of ophthalmic technology development, to empower the global eye health industry.”

 

Bang Chen, Chairman of AIER said, “we aim to include the vast urban and rural counties in China in our network to develop an eye health platform for all communities so that people can access high-quality eye healthcare services in their neighbourhoods. In terms of capability, we aim to build world-class national regional ophthalmic centres based on the clinical platform covering Asia, Europe and North America, and to improve the overall capability of Chinese eye hospitals to do our best to catch up with the advanced world levels.”


 

In addition to the five platforms, the "Beidou talent plan" also includes two major support systems: the Talent Mechanism Support system and the AIER Employee Care system.
